BLUE BIRD PLANT NAMED FINALIST IN INDUSTRYWEEK MAGAZINE'S BEST PLANTS IN NORTH AMERICA 2007 COMPETITION
FORT VALLEY, GA (September 20, 2007) -For the third consecutive year, IndustryWeek has named Blue Bird’s North Georgia Body Company plant among its finalists in the magazine’s Best Plants competition. The Blue Bird Corporation plant was selected from manufacturing facilities across North America in recognition for dedication to continuous improvement and outstanding performance in safety, quality and productivity.
The La Fayette-based plant has been in operation since 1982 and presently manufactures the Blue Bird Vision® model school bus body. Kevin Wood, La Fayette’s General Manager, attributes the nomination for this prestigious award to the commitment and effort displayed by Blue Bird’s employees. “We are pleased to be recognized for this award for the third year in a row. I believe it reaffirms our employees’ teamwork and commitment; however, we cannot or will not, grow complacent. We will continue to develop, produce and refine the best and safest products and processes to promote customer loyalty and long term prosperity, for both our internal and external partners.”
Bill Cooper, Blue Bird Senior Vice President and General Manager, echoed Wood’s comments. “We are pleased and honored to be recognized yet again by IndustryWeek,” said Cooper. “This third consecutive nomination simply reinforces what we have always known: that the North Georgia Blue Bird plant and its employees represent the industry standard for safe, quality manufacturing.”
In addition to Blue Bird’s North Georgia facility, other finalists include: Hewlett-Packard/America’s Software Manufacturing in Nashua, New Hampshire; Northrop Grumman Corporation – Navigation Systems Division in Salt Lake City, Utah; Rockwell Collins – Decorah Operations in Decorah, Iowa; and two Lockheed Martin facilities located in Florida.
IndustryWeek will select ten winners of the 2007 “IW Best Plants” competition from the list of finalists. Profiles of the Top 10 plants will appear in its January 2008 issue.
