Setting industry standards, the bus manufacturer debuts a new bus design, leading-edge stability technology and a best-in-class warranty at a national trade show

Fort Valley, GA (November 10, 2014) – Reaffirming its commitment to providing the bus industry with leading innovations, Blue Bird is scheduled to debut cutting-edge buses and forward-thinking technology at the upcoming National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) trade show in Kansas City.

Leading the way with a new Type A bus model, Blue Bird is set to unveil the highly anticipated Micro Bird T-Series bus line. This new line features a contemporary and ergonomic design which highlights the bus’ narrow body, designed to provide enhanced maneuverability. As the only manufacturer to offer this bus on a new Ford transit chassis, the cutting-edge line is an industry game-changer with a capacity of up to 25 passengers under 10,400 pounds. Among the abundant list of features, the bus offers aerodynamics which support increased fuel economy, maximized driver visibility, optimized driver ergonomics, highly responsive power and striking aesthetics. Full production on the Micro Bird T-Series is scheduled for the spring of 2015.

Another industry-leading debut is Blue Bird’s electronic stability control provided by technology front-runner, Bendix ESP. Blue Bird is the only manufacturer in North America to offer school bus stability technology. Factory installed, Bendix ESP is an anti-lock brake system-based stability technology that recognizes and assists with providing increased stability and control during bus under-and over-steer driving situations. Delivering the highest level of stability on wet and dry surfaces, the system utilizes a series of sensors to continuously monitor vehicle parameters including wheel speed, lateral acceleration, steering angle, brake pressure and yaw rate. The sensors combine to measure driver intent and vehicle direction, helping to improve driving through automatic interventions such as de-throttling the engine and selectively applying the brakes—typically reacting faster than human response. Blue Bird’s electronic stability control option is featured on the Vision and All American line.

The best in propane just got better! The alternative fuel leader debuts a best-in-class Propane Vision warranty which provides unlimited mile propane system coverage for five years— this includes the engine, transmission, fuel tanks and propane system. With districts reporting savings of 37-cents per mile, the Propane Vision has become fastest growing segment in the school bus industry with over 4,000 buses on the road. On average, districts across North America can expect to save between $2,500 to $3,500 annually in fuel and maintenance savings for each bus it operates. Powered by the ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel system and a Ford 6.8-liter engine, the Propane Vision meets all Environmental Protection Agency certifications. The new Propane Vision warranty is available on the 2015 model year and beyond.

“Blue Bird is excited to debut the highly anticipated Micro Bird T-Series bus and forward-thinking technology at the NAPT Summit,” said Phil Horlock, president and CEO of Blue Bird Corporation. “These industry-leading debuts are an extension of our commitment to offering state-of-the-art buses and options that our customers value. We encourage the NAPT conference participants to stop by Blue Bird’s trade show booth and learn more about these leading products.”

Representatives from these innovative companies will be onsite in the Blue Bird booth to showcase the new initiatives and answer questions from conference participants. For more information on Blue Bird’s complete line of buses and new technology, visit your local Blue Bird Dealer or
