CHICAGO SCHOOL BUS CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY TRANSPORTATION

[image: thumbnail]CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 28, 2013) — Students in Chicago are riding in environmentally-friendly propane autogas school buses thanks to local school bus contractor Sunrise Transportation. The Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses, fueled by domestically-produced propane autogas, reduce the community’s carbon footprint while providing lower fuel and maintenance costs. A key hand-over ceremony was held today to present the contractor with the keys to their new school buses.

Representatives and dignitaries in attendance included the City of Chicago, Blue Bird Corporation, Central States Bus Sales, the Propane Education and Research Council, AmeriGas and the Chicago Clean Cities Coalition. In addition to dignitary speeches, the event included a fueling demonstration and school buses on display.

Chicago District No. 299 will begin the school year with 25 new Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses thanks to Sunrise Transportation. With a fleet of over 350 buses, Sunrise Transportation transports approximately 5,000 children on over 400 routes.

"We are thrilled to provide students in Chicago with safe school transportation that produces virtually zero emissions," said Greg Bonnett, president and co-founder of Sunrise Transportation. "We did our homework when evaluating alternative-fuel school buses. With a Propane-Powered Vision demo bus provided by our local dealer, Central States Bus Sales, we were able to drive and experience first-hand the advantages of propane autogas. We also spoke with transportation directors across the country and after continually hearing about the year-over-year operational savings, ease of maintenance, simplistic infrastructure, and environmental benefits we were convinced Blue Bird’s Propane-Powered Vision was the right solution for Chicago’s school children and our fleet."

"We applaud Sunrise Transportation for its forward thinking and choosing fiscally-responsible and environmentally-friendly school bus solutions. Blue Bird school buses fueled by propane autogas reduce emissions, lower operating costs, decrease noise and make use of an abundant, domestic alternative fuel,"said John Kwapis, chief operating officer of Blue Bird Corporation. "The Propane-Powered Vision is a smart choice for any school system and Sunrise Transportation has established a leadership position for the state of Illinois."

"Central States Bus Sales is proud to offer school buses that provide ample benefits to the Chicago community," said Jeff Reitz, president of Central States Bus Sales. "Working together with AmeriGas, the local propane autogas provider, area contractors were outfitted with a turn-key transportation solution that will environmentally and fiscally benefit the school districts, the contractors and the city of Chicago. It’s a win-win solution."

The Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision, equipped with a ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel system and a Ford 6.8-liter engine, meets all Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board certifications. The buses feature 60 percent less carbon monoxide, 12 percent less carbon dioxide, 20 percent less nitrogen oxide and up to 25 percent less greenhouse gases than gasoline. Customers can expect to save between $3,000 and $3,500 in fuel savings per year for each bus it operates. The Propane-Powered Vision is fully customizable for up to 78 passengers.

Ninety percent of U.S. propane supply is produced domestically, with an additional seven percent from Canada. Additionally, propane autogas refueling infrastructure is less expensive than any other alternative fuel. Sunrise Transportation is working with local propane autogas provider, AmeriGas, to have state-of-the-art fueling infrastructure placed on-site.
