NEW Larger Standard Battery Pack with Enhanced Features
Blue Bird electric school buses will now come standard with the Accelera BP97E battery pack, designed and built in the US. The new electric school bus battery pack offers enhanced features, further allowing the transition to zero-emission school buses for school districts across North America. In addition, more configuration options for Blue Bird’s electric school buses are now available:
- Now available in 217” wheel base Vision
- Available All-American wheelbase configurations: 259”, 273”
- Optional front charge port (Vision Models, 252” and 273” wheelbase only)
- Standard CCS1 Charge Port (Level 2) AC and DC Fast Charge capable
- V2G capable and designed to export 60kw of energy
Features and Benefits
This new standard electric school bus battery pack features higher energy density, a lighter weight design and an advanced battery management system. Coupled with an increased usable capacity, improved DC fast charging capabilities, and improved thermal management systems, these upgrades lead to very significant and tangible real world performance improvements.
- Higher Energy Density
- Featuring a higher energy density, Blue Bird electric school buses equipped with the BP97E battery pack can achieve up to 150-mile range on a single charge. This additional range with enhanced comfort means drivers can go the distance.
- Lighter Weight Design
- Higher energy density with a lighter weight design allows for an increased payload. With increased payload, school districts can transport more students and luggage.
- Advanced Battery Management System
- The advanced battery management system of the new standard BP97E battery pack was designed for improved efficiency and longer life.
- Increased Usable Capacity
- The technology advancements BP97E battery pack results in a 194kWh battery capacity. This is 88% usable capacity is significant increase, allowing for about 40% additional capacity compared to the previous pack.
- Improved DC Fast Charging Capabilities
- Improvements to the charging capabilities allow for at DC fast charging at 120kW. Blue Bird’s electric school bus can achieve a full charge in approximately 2 hours at this level. AC charging (Level 2) capabilities are still retained.
- Improved Thermal Management Systems
- The thermal management system regulates the electric school bus battery’s temperature to keep it operating within optimal conditions. The improvements of this system help extend the battery’s life, and provides enhanced cold and hot weather performance with advanced preconditioning.
