This year, Blue Bird set out to create an experience at STN Expo West that went beyond a straightforward school bus display. From hands-on educational opportunities and fleet strategy discussions to customer feedback sessions and interactive activities, every conversation centered on one goal: to help school districts make informed decisions with confidence.
Explore Your Options
One of the biggest conversations throughout STN Expo West centered on choice.
No two school districts operate the same way. Some are focused on the reduction of emissions, while others seek to maximize range, manage operating costs or prepare for future growth. That’s why Blue Bird believes the best fleet is the one designed for a district’s specific needs, rather than using a standard formula.

Earlier this year, Blue Bird reached a huge milestone by achieving full ownership of Micro Bird. This brings small- and large-bus expertise together under one roof to offer the broadest product lineup in North America, including Type A, Type C and Type D school buses, as well as multi-purpose and commercial buses.
It also means providing the industry’s broadest range of powertrain options. Blue Bird remains the only North American school bus manufacturer to offer diesel, gasoline, propane and electric buses. This gives school districts the power to evaluate and choose the school bus solution that best fits their routes, infrastructure, sustainability goals and budget.
For some fleets, that may be propane. Others may benefit from electric buses on shorter routes, while many districts continue to rely on diesel or gasoline — or a combination of multiple technologies.
Learn From Real Fleet Experience
A review of today’s transportation solutions is only part of the process. Insight into real-world performance is what helps districts make confident decisions.

At STN Expo West, Steve Whaley, Blue Bird’s alternative fuels manager, joined Todd Mouw, executive vice president at ROUSH CleanTech, to lead an engaging Green Bus Summit session, “Slash Your Bus Fuel & Maintenance Budget.” Together, they shared practical insights into evaluating today’s powertrain options and building fleets that balance operational performance, long-term costs and sustainability goals.
The conversation continued during a Lunch & Learn hosted by the Propane Education & Research Council, where attendees explored one of the biggest questions facing school districts today. Once you’ve selected a powertrain, what’s the most practical and cost-effective way to fuel it?

Throughout both sessions, the focus remained on how to make informed decisions — not by promoting a single technology, but by understanding the strengths of each option and matching them to a district’s operational needs.
Attendees also explored how many fleets are adopting mixed-energy strategies, using propane, electric, gasoline and diesel buses together to meet varying route demands, and to balance operating costs, infrastructure and emissions goals. Discussions covered total cost of ownership, funding opportunities and the importance of flexibility as technology continues to evolve.
For us, those conversations don’t end when the trade show does. Supported by Blue Bird’s nationwide dealer network, customers have access to local expertise, service and technical support wherever they operate.

Help Shape What’s Next

STN Expo West marked the official introduction of Blue Bird Horizon, a new customer community designed to create a direct connection between Blue Bird and the transportation professionals who use our buses every day.
Transportation directors, drivers, mechanics, and school administrators understand the realities of student transportation better than anyone. Through surveys, focus groups, and ongoing collaboration, Blue Bird Horizon gives those voices a direct role in shaping future vehicle designs, safety innovations, and strategic priorities.
Listening has always been at the heart of how Blue Bird innovates. Horizon strengthens that partnership by ensuring customer feedback continues to guide the next generation of Blue Bird products.
If you didn’t attend STN Expo West, you can still participate with Blue Bird Horizon and help shape the future of student transportation.
Turning Learning into an Experience
In addition to educational sessions and one-on-one conversations with Blue Bird experts, attendees were invited to participate in an interactive experience that encouraged them to explore every corner of the Blue Bird booth.
Guests completed activities to learn about alternative fuels, explore electric vehicle readiness, participate in technical challenges, engage with Blue Bird Horizon and attend educational experiences.

At each stop, guests collected commemorative pins. Those who earned the Horizon Member pin, along with three additional pins, unlocked the exclusive Fleet Builder pin.
The program transformed the booth into an engaging experience beyond the school bus display.
